Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 14” MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB RAM (2021)

The best laptop I’ve ever owned. It’s fast, has a great keyboard, and the battery life is insane. I can’t believe how much better the M1 Pro is than the Intel chips.

  • Logitech MX Anywhere 3

I’ve been using the MX Anywhere series for years and I love the compact size and the ability to switch between devices with the button on the bottom.

Development tools

  • VS Code + Vim extension

My daily driver for coding. I use the Vim extension for motions and get all the benefits of VS Code extensions. Best of both worlds.

  • Neovim

For quick terminal edits and config files. I don't use it as my main editor, but the Vim motions I learned transfer everywhere.

  • Alacritty

A fast, GPU-accelerated terminal. Minimal config, just works. I use it with Neovim when I need to edit files from the terminal.

  • TablePlus

Great software for working with databases. Has saved me from building about a thousand admin interfaces for my various projects over the years.

Design

  • Figma

We started using Figma as just a design tool but now it's become our virtual whiteboard for the entire company. Never would have expected the collaboration features to be the real hook.

  • Motion Canvas

I use this to create animations for my YouTube videos. It lets you build animations with code, which feels natural as a developer.

Productivity

  • MindfulDay

I’ve been using MindfulDay for a few months now and I love it. It’s a simple habit tracker that’s been great for keeping me on track with my daily routines. you can find it on https://bisakerjaremote.com/mindfulday.

  • Obsidian

I’ve been using Obsidian for a few months now and I love it. It’s a great tool for taking notes and organizing my thoughts.

  • Raycast Focus

Simple tool for blocking distracting websites when I need to just do the work and get some momentum going.
