Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
- 14” MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB RAM (2021)- The best laptop I’ve ever owned. It’s fast, has a great keyboard, and the battery life is insane. I can’t believe how much better the M1 Pro is than the Intel chips.
- Logitech MX Anywhere 3- I’ve been using the MX Anywhere series for years and I love the compact size and the ability to switch between devices with the button on the bottom.
Development tools
- Vs Code- I’ve been using Vs Code for a few years now and I love it. I’ve tried to switch to other editors a few times but I always come back.
- iTerm2- I’m honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren’t just part of the macOS Terminal but it’s what I use.
- TablePlus- Great software for working with databases. Has saved me from building about a thousand admin interfaces for my various projects over the years.
Design
- Figma- We started using Figma as just a design tool but now it’s become our virtual whiteboard for the entire company. Never would have expected the collaboration features to be the real hook.
Productivity
- MindfulDay- I’ve been using MindfulDay for a few months now and I love it. It’s a simple habit tracker that’s been great for keeping me on track with my daily routines. you can find it on https://bisakerjaremote.com/mindfulday.
- Obsidian- I’ve been using Obsidian for a few months now and I love it. It’s a great tool for taking notes and organizing my thoughts.
- Focus- Simple tool for blocking distracting websites when I need to just do the work and get some momentum going.
